Self Storage company offered locations as drop off points, provided a matching cash donation
NEW YORK, NEW YORK (January 19, 2011) – On Tuesday, January 17th, leading self storage company Storage Deluxe helped New York Cares climb closer to their goal of collecting 100,000 coats for low-income men, women and children by dropping off 732 coats collected at their 10 New York area locations. Storage Deluxe also delivered a nice surprise to New York Cares—a check for $3,660, which served as a $5-per-coat matching donation for the non-profit organization.
Storage Deluxe joined the cause to collect winter coats for the New York Cares 23rd Annual Coat Drive in December by offering their 10 locations in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens as drop points for coats. “It just made sense,” noted CEO Nick Coslov. “Many of our customers use their storage unit as an off-season closet, and as the temperatures dropped they were coming in trading in summer items for winter. Most of them tend to find an old coat or two that they no longer want or need—and rather than see those tossed out, we wanted to help reach the goal New York Cares had set.”
Storage Deluxe had good company in serving as a drop off facility for the New York Cares Coast Drive. The New York City Police Department and New York MTA are avid supporters of the program every year, facilitating easy drop off for New York residents.
In accepting the coats and the matching funds donation from Patrick Geoghegan of Storage Deluxe, Diane Conroy, Officer of Service Events for New York Cares, noted that the organization has collected over 60,000 coats to date, and expects that number to grow to 70,000. “We can’t thank Storage Deluxe enough for becoming a valuable partner to us and exceed the number of coats we collected last year. Also, the unexpected generosity of the matching donation is truly a testament to what a great New York-based company they are.”
